Entry: Aaron, congratulations! Sunday, November 26, 2006

i still remember reading one of his interviews many many years ago.

"what are your goals for your future?" the interviewer asked.

"to bring my dancing to a whole new level, to be an excellent stage performer, to cut good albums... to win a best actor award by 40" was his answer back then.

It has been a long ardous journey for him, with so many detractors saying that he'll never make good as an actor... that he ranked bottom among the four Heavenly Kings... that his career had hit the pits.

But at 41, his Heavenly King mettle is shining forth.

Congratulations, Aaron! You have attained your goals twice over. Congratulations on winning Best Actor in the Golden Horse Awards for the second time in a row! And you have become the second person in history to win the Best Actor award consecutively. As a fan for more than 10 years, words cannot describe how happy I am for you.. You will always be numero uno Heavenly King in our hearts (^-~)

 Aaron Kwok - 42nd Golden Horse Awards Best Actor

 Aaron Kwok - 43rd Golden Horse Awards Best Actor

I still remember a scene in "Divergence", the movie that won Aaron his first Golden Horse Award last year. He was thinking of his lost wife, whom he had been searching for in desperation for 10 years. And while eating a hamburger, sitting at the wheel of his car, he cried. The jury in Golden Horse had said that the reason why Aaron won the award was because he was the only one of the 4 Best Actor nominees whose eyes turned red while crying. It was geniune emoting, they said.

And the slow burn and decline of his character in "After This Our Exile" has been lauded even more by reviewers. Like the chant of the rosary, After This Our Exile burns even more into our hearts. The title is especially poignant.. 'After this our exile' is from the prayers of the rosary (and quoted in TS Eliot's poem "Ash Friday"), which means 'lead us home at last' - 'et Iesum, benedictum fructum ventris tui'...

郭天王:郭富城 再度蝉联金马影帝宝座。祝福你,城城!

".......Redeem the time, redeem the dream
The token of the word unheard, unspoken

Till the wind shake a thousand whispers from the yew

And after this our exile

If the lost word is lost, if the spent word is spent
If the unheard, unspoken
Word is unspoken, unheard;
Still is the unspoken word, the Word unheard,
The Word without a word, the Word within
The world and for the world;
And the light shone in darkness and
Against the Word the unstilled world still whirled
About the centre of the silent Word....."

- TS Eliot "Ash Wednesday"
